The growth hormone–insulin-like growth factor axis in pregnancy

چکیده
The growth hormone (GH)–insulin-like factor (IGF) axis is one of the main drivers mammalian and development. Pituitary secretion GH pulsatile under positive negative hypothalamic control, as well stimulation from gastric-secreted acyl-ghrelin. acts both directly via GH-receptor (GHR) indirectly IGF1 production to induce anabolic metabolic responses at multiple target tissues. In this review, we describe major changes during pregnancy, with increasing abundance in maternal circulation across species. This stimulates IGFs, whose bioavailability also increased by proteolytic cleavage their circulating binding proteins pregnancy. These turn adaptations pregnancy promote placental function fetal growth, does exogenous or IGF treatment animal models normal compromised Finally, explore alternative approaches enhance adaptations, hence growth.

The growth hormone-insulin-like growth factor-I axis.
The aim of the GH-2000 project is to develop a method for detecting GH doping among athletes. Previous papers in the GH-2000 project have proposed that a forthcoming method to detect GH doping will need specific components from the GH/IGF-I axis and bone markers because these specific variables seem more sensitive to exogenous GH than to exercise. The present study examined the responses of the...
متن کاملDisturbances of growth hormone-insulin-like growth factor axis and response to growth hormone in acidosis.
Severe chronic metabolic acidosis (CMA) in rats is associated with poor food intake and downregulation of growth hormone (GH), insulin-like growth factors (IGFs), and liver receptors; the administration of recombinant GH (rGH) fails to improve the growth failure. In mice with carbonic anhydrase II deficiency (CAD), a model of moderate CMA with food intake close to normal, we studied serum level...

The ontogeny of the somatotropin/insulin-like growth factor system was examined in well-fed pigs under basal conditions and during a short-term challenge of porcine ST (pST). The study was conducted with two replicates of eight castrate male pigs from 3.8 kg BW (10 d of age) to 92 kg BW (129 d of age). Pigs were reared individually with ad libitum access to milk replacer through 23 d of age. Th...
متن کاملInsulin-like growth factor-I: compartmentalization within the somatotropic axis?
Insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) is essential for normal growth; igf-1 gene mutations are associated with extreme growth retardation in mice and, very rarely, in humans. The relative contributions of tissue vs. endocrine (hepatic) IGF-I to the regulation of growth has been a fundamental question. New gene targeting technologies are providing answers for these questions.
متن کاملNovel Modulators of the Growth Hormone - Insulin-Like Growth Factor Axis: Pregnancy-Associated Plasma Protein-A2 and Stanniocalcin-2
Growth hormone (GH) and its mediator, insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), play a critical role in human growth. In circulation, IGF-1 is found in a ternary complex with IGF binding proteins (IGFBPs) and acid labile subunit (ALS) but little attention has been paid to the regulation of IGF-1 bioavailability. Recently, pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A2 (PAPP-A2) and stanniocalcin-2 (STC2) w...
